GREG CHALMERS will be looking to lock in his return to the US PGA Tour this week with a good performance in the final event of the secondary tour – the Web.com Tour Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida.

It all get a bit confusing at this time of year but basically 50 spots are up for grabs  on the main tour for the 2014-15 wrap around season.

Twenty five of those spots have already been decided based on the top earners of the Web.com regular season. That includes Aussie Cameron Percy and Kiwi Steve Alker.

The remaining 25 places are decided on the best performers in the four event Web.com final series, with the championship at the TPC Sawgrass this week the final event.

Chalmers, who finished outside the top 125 in the US PGA Tour regular season and therefore didn’t make the FedEx Cup playoffs, was tossed into the four week battle to secure a card.

He’s done pretty well in that and sits at 19th in the Web.com playoffs top 25. He only needs a half decent finish this week but there are 11 other Aussie golfers – Steve Allan, Adam Crawford, Scott Gardiner, Mathew Goggin, Ashley Hall, Scott Hend, Bronson La’Cassie, James Nitties, Rod Pampling, Alistair Presnell and Aron Price – who need a whole lot better.

Gardiner, for instance is the best place of the 11 and needs at least a top 20 finish in Florida.

“There is no doubt I am in a better position than many guys are but at the moment I am just trying to stay focused on hitting the best shots I can and see what results I get,” Chalmers said this week.

“I know it sounds simple but I am trying to stay away from any ‘where do I have to finish’ thoughts.”

The higher players finish in the top 50 is also a consideration as the higher the rank the more tournament exemptions they receive and the higher the earning power.

Aussie golfers already locked in for next season are Adam Scott, Jason Day, Marc Leishman, John Senden, Matt Jones, Stuart Appleby, Geoff Ogilvy, Steven Bowditch, Aaron Baddeley, Robert Allenby and Jarrod Lyle. The first event will be the Frys.Com Open, starting on October 10 in California.
