STEVEN BOWDITCH was in unchartered waters this morning, leading the 2014 Valero Texas Open going into the final round.

Bowditch took the 36 hole lead of the event, the first time he has ever led a US PGA Tour tournament, and held it with a 4-under 68 on Saturday.

The 30 year old had lots of Aussie golf fans wishing him the best as he held a slender one stroke lead over America’s Matt Kuchar through six holes in the final round.

Bowditch, a winner on the Web.com Tour, has long been known as an extremely talented golfer with a great short game. He is a little in the Phil Mickelson mode, maybe a little over aggressive at times but always going for it. That was exemplified In the third round he only managed 8 of 18 greens in regulation, but still managed to scramble a great score.

The final round, if nothing else, promised to be a wild ride.

Here’s wishing all the best, particularly since win here would also mean an automatic Invitation to the US Masters in a fortnight.
