ADAM SCOTT is obviously chuffed with the level of support he has received since touching down in Australia for a month of golf tournament “celebrations”.
Scott was being pulled every which way on Wednesday ahead of the 2013 Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast.
The reigning US Masters champion received the keys to the city, had some extensive media commitments and even found time to have a hit out in the pro-am.
“It’s overwhelming,” the 32 year admitted at a media conference. “I think you don’t spend much time thinking about it, so it’s a little bit of a surprise and so quickly the Masters finishes and you’re into the next tournament, the Players Championship and you don’t win that, so then you’re back working again. I think you move on from winning the Masters and enjoying that moment quite quickly because there are many other things to achieve but I think it’s a nice reminder of what I was able to accomplish there in April and I’ll certainly enjoy being home for a month and celebrating with everyone.”
With Brandt Snedeker pulling out of the event due to injury and world number 43 Rickie Fowler the next highest ranked golfer, Scott is a raging favourite to take the title.
All the talk and pre-tournament expectation will end at 12.20pm on Thursday when Scott tees off with Richard Green and Perth International winner Jin Jeong. The Queenslander is confident he’ll do well.
“I think this is the most important event for me down here in Australia,” Scott said.
“It’s the one I haven’t won and it would be a great week to do it at a new venue here at Royal Pines, which is somewhat a home game for me. I’m excited about this week, I really want to play well and give myself the best chance I can to be competitive. I like where my game’s at, so we’ll see what the next few days throw up.”
Adam Scott speaking on Wednesday about his historic Masters victory: “It’s a life changer I guess. I think all the great things that come from winning the Masters are still yet to happen for me as a golfer personally. I think knowing I’m going back there for the next hopefully 50 years or something, being involved with that golf club and that golf tournament for that amount of time and going to the Champions dinner, attending with other legends of the game, are going to be the big things that I feel like are life changers, just being a golfer and loving the game. So, I look forward to that a lot. Lots of other little things but for me that’sthe big stuff that I think will make a difference for the rest of my life. ”
