FORMER Australian test cricketer Greg Blewett will be one of the golfers lining up for the 2012 Australian Mid-Amateur Championships on the Mornington Peninsula next month.
The avid amateur golfer will join others at the combined Australian Men’s and Women’s Mid Amateur Championships to be played from 14 to 16 November at Moonah Links Golf Club.
Entries for the event close on Wednesday 17 October. Entries are open for men with a maximum handicap limit of 4.4 and women with a 18.4 limit. Competitors are aged from 30 to 54. The Championships are in their sixth year.
Defending champion and four time winner Jason Perry (Vic) is one of the favourites in the Men’s competition along with Lester Peterson (NSW) who was an Australian representative from 1987 to 1997. Blewett represented South Australia earlier this year in the Interstate Series is also expected to be a strong contender.
In the Women’s event, 2011 champion Katrina Jones (Qld) will be back to defend her title while 2010 runner-up Kim Burke (NSW) will also be in the mix.
