GEOFF OGILVY has been bouncing back into some reasonable form on the US PGA Tour of late and the 2006 US Open winner has just been announced as the latest addition to the field at this year’s Perth International, to be played at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from 23 to 26 October.
Ogilvy won the Barracuda Championship in Reno earlier this month – his first TOUR win since 2010.
The 37 year old missed the cut in the first event of the FedEx Cup playoff series – The Barclays in New York – on the weekend but still managed to scrape into 100th place in the cup standings and into the second event.
Ogilvy now has eight PGA TOUR and four European Tour wins under his belt, including three World Golf Championships. Building on the recent win, Ogilvy said he was looking forward to continuing the comeback in Perth.
“I’ve been putting in a lot of practice to get to my current form, and I’m hoping I can continue to play well over the next few months,” he said.
“I have a strong affiliation with Lake Karrinyup Country Club as my business partner, Mike Clayton, was responsible for remodelling the course layout in 2007. The course now has plenty of challenges, I’m sure Mike will be putting pressure on me to perform well!
“The last time I actually played in Perth was in 2000 for the Heineken Classic, so it’s been a long while since I visited the West. I’m looking forward to playing there again.”
Ogilvy will be joining a very healthy field that includes 2013 US PGA Champion Jason Dufner, world No.22 Victor Dubuisson, five-time European Tour Champion Brett Rumford, the defending champion in Melbourne based Jin Jeong, and Steven Bowditch, who won his maiden PGA TOUR title in April at the Texas Open. Bowditch finished T22 at The Barclays and goes into the second event ranked 44th in the FedEx standings.
The Perth International, now in its third year, is jointly sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA TOUR of Australasia. Details at www.perthinternational.com
