Langer takes 5th Champions Tour title of 2014

BERNHARD LANGER rallied to win the 2014 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on Sunday for his fifth US Champions Tour victory of 2014.

The 56 year old German closed with a bogey-free 66 for a one-stroke victory over Americans Woody Austin (65) and Mark O’Meara (66). Langer did not make a bogey in the event and finished at 16-under for his 23rd career victory on the 50-and-over tour.

Langer, is now tied for fifth with New Zealand’s Sir Bob Charles on the tour’s victory list. He has had three victories in his last five starts and is a clear leader of the Charles Schwab season long points race.

America’s Kevin Sutherland, who shot a tour record 59 to lead after the second round, didn’t keep it going and closed with a 74 to drop into a tie for seventh.

Peter Senior closed with an even par 72 to finish on 4-under tied for 36th.
