THE 2014 Australian PGA Senior Championship will be played for the second year at the Richmond Golf Club in Western Sydney from the 29th October to 1st November, it has been announced.
A part of the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour, the championship is expected to attract a strong field as Australia’s leading older golfers vie for a prize purse of AU$70,000.
“We are pleased to be returning to the Richmond Golf Club for one of the most prestigious events on the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour,” said Brian Thorburn, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Australia.
“The 2013 Australian PGA Seniors Championship was a resounding success and we look forward to working with Richmond Golf Club to ensure 2014 is another high quality tournament.”
Being played at the Richmond Golf Club for the second time in the Championship’s 28 year history, the Club is looking forward to welcoming some of Australia’s best over 50’s tournament Professionals back to their course.
Defending Champion Daryl Purchase is expected to return along with Australian greats such as Rodger Davis, Mike Harwood and Mike Clayton.
“The Richmond Golf Club, together with the entire Hawkesbury region, is very excited to again play host to the Australian PGA Seniors Championship,” said Brenden Ellam, General Manager of Golf for Richmond Golf Club.
In the tournament’s second successive year at the Richmond Golf Club, the local community can again experience the opportunity to get up close with some of their golfing heroes.
“The great thing about the Legends Tour is that they go above and beyond when interacting with the spectators which provides an exciting fan experience.
“The Richmond Golf Club will build on last year’s success and deliver an even better show in 2014. I am personally looking forward to being part of this year’s tournament.”
The honour roll of the Australian PGA Seniors Championship reads like a who’s who of golf with those to have taken out the title including Australia’s Peter Senior, Peter Fowler and Mike Harwood along with the United States’ Lee Trevino and Tom Purtzer.
