MARC LEISHMAN tied for third at the 2014 Byron Nelson Championship on the weekend and moved closer to a start in the upcoming US Open.
Leishman shot a final round 2-under 68 to finish on 10-under, four behind debut winner Brendon Todd (66) of the US.
Leishman should move to just outside the top 60 – the mark he needs for a US Open start – when the new World Golf Rankings are officially announced soon [Which isn’t yet as we publish this, despite pronouncements elsewhere that Adam Scott is already officially world No.1].
Leishman tied second at the Farmers Insurance Open in January and had his debut US PGA Tour victory in 2012.
Todd’s victory came in his 77 US PGA Tour event and will give him some stability after twice in the past five years having to go back to back to the Web.com Tour to regain full playing privileges.
“I’m excited about the relief like I finally have a chance to play the PGA Tour for multiple years,” Todd said. “No. 1, going to Augusta for the Masters is a dream come true.”
Mike Weir (67), the 2003 US Masters Champion, finished runner up on 12-under.
