JOHN SENDEN and MATT JONES were just a few off the lead going into the final round of the 2014 Players Championship in Florida while Adam Scott has fought back to again be in contention for the world No.1 spot.
With rounds of 70-69-68 Senden was on 9-under, three strokes behind overnight leaders Martin Kaymer (63-69-72) and Jordan Spieth (67-66-71). Senden, a winner on the US PGA Tour already in 2014, was tied with former champion Sergio Garcia (67-71-69). Jones (70-69-69), another 2014 tour winner, was tied for fifth on 8-under.
After his disastrous opening round 77, Scott hit back with rounds of 67-69 to be at 3-under tied for 28th. Scott just needs to finish in the top 16 – and have some other results go his way – to finally claim the top spot in the world golfing rankings. Ironically, Scott would have automatically reached the No.1 spot had he sat out the championship.
