Geoff Ogilvy has one last chance to make the Masters field this year in what would be his 13th appearance

THE Shell Houston Open offers the final opportunity for many golfers to play their way into next week’s US Masters.

Those lining up this week at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas, and not already qualified for Augusta National need only to win for an immediate adrenalin boost.

The field in Texas includes seven Aussie golfers and only last week’s winner Steven Bowditch is already in the Masters field.

With Australia’s recent record of winners on the US PGA Tour who knows what might happen this weekend.

Aussies have certainly fared well in this event over the years with Bruce Devlin, Bruce Crampton (twice) David Graham, Stuart Appleby (twice), Robert Allenby and Adam Scott all featuring on the winners’ trophy.

With 12 Masters appearances already under his belt, Geoff Ogilvy is one who would dearly love to add to the tally.

Ogilvy’s form in recent years has been less than stellar but he did show signs of improvement last week.

The other Aussies taking part are previous winners Appleby and Robert Allenby as well as Aaron Baddeley, Matt Jones and Greg Chalmers.

Maybe Matt Jones will be the Aussie to break through his first tour win on Sunday and keep our winning streak going.

A number of Masters contenders are using this event to hone their games on a course with many Augusta National similarities.

They include Rory McIlroy Henrik Stenson, Matt Kuchar and Keegan Bradley.

In other Masters news Tiger Woods is definitely out with his back injury while Jason Day has fully recovered from his thumb injury and is rearing to go. Day even has a chance of becoming world No.1 if he happens to don the Green Jacket after his handful of close calls – and other results go his way. Adam Scott, just a tad behind Woods in the rankings, would certainly take the golf world’s top spot if he should successfully defend his Masters title.
