THE EUROPEAN TOUR moves back to South Africa this week after a very successful three week Middle East swing.

The Joburg Open has the added incentive this year of being a qualifying event for the British Open with the three top finishing players not otherwise exempt guaranteed a start at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in July.

Defending champion this week is South African golfer Richard Sterne who will be going for his third victory here, as will last year’s runner up Charl Schwartzel.

The only Aussies in the field this week at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club are Wade Ormsby and Brady Watt, with the former world number one amateur playing just his second event as a golf professional. The 23 year old West Australian came 14th in the Australian Open as an amateur last November before turning pro and playing an event in Thailand.
