2013 US PGA Championship Preview: Leaderboard, TV Times

EIGHT Aussie golfers line up for the final major of 2013 this week at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York.

Adam Scott, Jason Day, Geoff Ogilvy, John Senden, Marc Leishman, Marcus Fraser, Brett Rumford and Matt Jones carry Australia’s hopes of a second major for the year.

Reigning US Masters champion Scott is of course our trump card but others, particularly Day, could feature.

Day has had a quite spectacular success rate – apart from winning – in the 11 majors he has contested in his comparatively short career, with five top tens.

This year he was outright third behind Scott at the Masters and tied for second with Phil Mickelson behind Justin Rose at the US Open.

He was T32 at the British Open but is the first to admit he has yet to fully come to terms with links golf.

The Oak Hill East Course, built in 1926 and designed by Donald Ross, is one of America’s great old traditional layouts and is much more in tune with the young Australian’s game.

The defending champion this week is a bloke little heard of lately, Rory McIlroy.

Much more in the news (and in form) has been his arch nemesis, Tiger Woods, who goes into the PGA Championship a raging favourite after his fifth win of the year on the weekend at the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods has won the Bridgestone event eight times and the Firestone Country Club course is not dissimilar to Oak Hill.

Woods has been getting some more putting lessons from his mate Steve Stricker this week. The last time he tried that he putted the lights out.

Four Aussies have won the PGA Championship in the past. Let’s hope another name is added to the list, that currently comprises Jim Ferrier, David Graham, Wayne Grady and Steve Elkington, this year.

US PGA Championship Australian TV Times

Adam Scott tees off at 3.30am Friday (AEST) along with fellow current major champions Mickelson and Rose. That’s just half an hour after Fox Sports coverage of the event begins in Australia, so hopefully he will get some decent coverage in the opening rounds.

1st Round: Friday: 3:00am – 9:00am. 2nd Round: Saturday : 3:00am – 9:00am. 3rd Round: Sunday: 4:00am – 9:00am. Final Round: Monday: 4:00am – 9:00am.
