Report by Noel Hoppe
Springwood Golf Club hosted the final WSRVGA interclub competition for 2025 last Wednesday, with 127 keen golfers enjoying a pleasantly warm day in the lower mountains.
As the last game for the year results on the day were anxiously awaited with Player Of The Year and Club Of the Year titles to be finalised.
In the Club Of The Year each clubs score for a competition is the total of the stableford scores of their 4 most successful players. These scores are then totalled over the eight rounds of play.
Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club proved the surprise package of the day, winning their first team event of the year with an impressive 149 stableford points was amassed by Kim Stockbridge (41), Fred Croyston (37), Steven Loader (37) and Judy Loader (34).
Other team scores on the day were Dunheved with 147, Wallacia 146, Springwood 145, Leonay 141, Penrith 137, Richmond 134 and Glenmore 127.
Despite Richmond being near the tail of the field, the scores of the other clubs were not enough to overcome their considerable lead in the overall competition and they claimed the 2025 title of Club Of The Year with an impressive 1115 stableford points.
They were followed by Wallacia (1093). Glenmore (1089), Dunheved (1073) Penrith (1042), Leonay (1038), Stonecutters (1022) and Springwood (948).
In the men’s Player Of The Year competition, Steven Loaders contribution for Stonecutters was enough for him to edge out a close group to claim the title. In this event a players best 3 stableford scores over the eight competition rounds determines their final score.
Steven’s total of 109 saw him just ahead of John Searle (Glenmore, 108), James Bullock (Richmond, 108), Warren Husband (Wallacia, 107), and Glenn Brown (Dunheved, 106). In all 16 players were within 6 points in a very tight contest.
The ladies Player Of The Year was more clear-cut with Dunheved’s Elaine Williams maintaining her lead with a runner-up score of 38 points at Springwood to finish the season with a total of 109. Second was Julie Berg (Penrith, 100) followed by Lynnette Luttinger (Richmond, 96), Jane Mackie (Richmond, 95) and Debra Moussa (Penrith, 93).
While Stonecutters claimed the team prize at Springwood, the other prizes were shared amongst a range of competing clubs.

Wallacia took out the men’s 2BBB stableford with Bruno Mitrovic and Mark White amassing a total of 49 points to finish two ahead of Drew Fyffe and Kim Stockbridge (Stonecutters) with 47.
49 was also enough to win the ladies 2BBB, Ann Limpic and Jo Richardson claiming the prizes for Springwood, ahead of clubmates Jill Baldacchino and Mark Fazel who claimed second on a countback with 45 points.

The contribution of Ann Limpic to the team win is illustrated by her victory in the ladies individual competition where she claimed first prize with 40 points to edge out Player Of The Year winner Elaine Williams (38).
Men’s Player Of The Year Steven loader secured the men’s A Grade first prize with 37 points, narrowly ahead of several players with Neil Johnston (Penrith, 36 points) being runner-up on a countback.
Dunheved Golf Club ruled the men’s B Grade competition – Raj Kumar (36 points) and Wayne Beesley (35) finishing ahead of the pack.
The two best individual scores of the day went to the C Grade men’s prizewinners – Wallacia’s Mark White finishing ahead of Stonecutters’ Kim Stockbridge on a countabck after both had scored 41 points.
