It’s Scott V Woods on Day 1 of Presidents Cup

ADAM Scott and Tiger Woods will face off on the first day of the 2011 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Club.

At the tradition Wednesday drawing of the Thursday pairings five sets of players were named for the Foursomes that conspicuously excluded Woods and Scott.

“Who is left?” US vice captain Jay Haas asked with tongue firmly in cheek.

Both Internationals captain Greg Norman and US captain insisted that any supposed issues between Woods and Scott’s caddie Steve Williams were a thing of the past.

“I am going to make a comment about the last pairing,” said Norman, getting on the front foot immediately. “I think it is great for the tournament , No. 1. It needed to be done. It played out the way it played out. There wasn’t any premeditation in it.

Couples agreed: “ Yes, I think Greg hit it right on the button. We did not plan anything. But I think it worked out awesome for everybody involved to have Adam play Tiger. As we said all along, they are still good friends and I think it is an exciting match.

Woods insisted at the Australian Open in Sydney that he and Williams had met and erased their issues with a shake of their hands.

Now that the much anticipated face-off will happen at the beginning of the event, perhaps everyone can just get over it and concentrate on the golf.

The Thursday format is Foursomes where the teams of two players take alternate strokes of the ball.

Woods will partner with Steve Stricker and Scott with K.J. Choi. They hit off at 2.05pm

The Opening Ceremony was bigger than Ben Hur. Actually, I think it really was the set from Ben Hur. Here Greg Norman addresses the thousands assembled.
The Presidents Cup arrived by mountain horsemen as "Strange Fruit" hovered nearby.
