NATHAN HOLMAN’S win at the Australian PGA Championship last year helped turbo charge his international golfing career and in December will return in an effort to repeat the dose.
Holman was the first Australian to capitalise on the Queensland event’s new co-sanctioning relationship, earning full status on the European Tour.
The 25 year old Victorian will return to RACV the Royal Pines Resort from 1-4 December on the Gold Coast after a breakthrough year.
Holman, who also received a boost in his opportunities by winning the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, spent 2016 competing on the European Tour, made his Major Championship debut at The Open and faced the world’s best at the WGC – Cadillac Championship.
With tickets now on sale for the Australian PGA Championship, Holman says he will return to defend the Kirkwood Cup a more experienced player.
“I always look forward to coming home to play the Australian summer of golf. This year even more so being the defending champion of the Australian PGA Championship,” he said.
“I will come back with added confidence knowing what it takes to win around Royal Pines and the experience of having done it before.”
“It’s going to be a highlight of my year, defending the Aussie PGA and I feel like I will be able to put in another good performance.”
Holman will have his work cut out for him in a field which will also include World Number 7 Adam Scott.
“Rewarding our home grown talent for playing well on Australian soil by providing them with international opportunities has been an important goal for the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia,” said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia, as tickets went on sale.
“We have seen this come to fruition with Nathan with his career flourishing on the European Tour thanks to wining the Australian PGA Championship. He has been a wonderful ambassador for Australia in Europe.”
“Like all golf fans, I am looking forward to watching him in action at the Australian PGA Championship duelling with Adam Scott in his title defence.”
