ALL the drama of Australian golf’s Triple Crown has been played out for another year and this week sees the final event of the current PGA Tour of Australasia season.
The 2015 NSW PGA Championship takes place at Riverside Oaks Golf Resort in north western Sydney.
Whilst the tour’s Order of Merit and all the spoils that go with it has already been decided with Nathan Holman winning the Australian PGA Championship last week, there are plenty of other golfers with lots to play for.
We’re barracking for veteran Peter Lonard (pictured), whose long road back from injury and career disruption has seen him recently show some glimpses of the top form which has seen him win nine times on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
The 48 year old finished tied 4th at the NSW Open a month ago and then tied 9th last week at the Australian PGA Championship. In fact, he was one of only six players to break par in the final round at RACV Royal Pines Resort.
Another featured player is Rhein Gibson, the highest ranked player in field, whose undoubted talent has seen him qualify for the 2016 US PGA Tour.
Gibson has put some stunning individual rounds together of late, but needs to string four good rounds together.
Other entrants include Todd Sinnott, Dimitrios Papadatos, Matt Millar, 2015 PGA Tour of Australasia winners Ben Eccles, James Nitties, Daniel Fox, David Bransdon and Aaron Townsend as well as Web.com Tour players Bronson La’Cassie and Ashley Hall.
The NSW PGA Championship will tee off on Thursday 10th December with the champion decided on Sunday 13th December.
Along with the winner’s share of the $110,000 prize purse the champion will earn status on the PGA Tour of Australasia until the end of 2017 and Official World Golf Ranking points.
Finishing high on the Order of Merit also provides players with other benefits including enhanced access to other tours around the world.
