Colin Montgomerie has slender Charles Schwab Cup lead as 2015 Champions Tour hots up

THE US Champions Tour plays its third last event of the year this week with Colin Montgomerie holding on to a narrow lead in the season long Charles Schwab Cup points race.

The Scot has a 39 point lead over America’s Jeff Maggert with Germany’s Bernhard Langer still in striking distance in third place.

The over 55’s tour descends on the TPC San Antonio this week for the San Antonio Championship.

The penultimate Champions Tour event is the Toshiba Classic at the Newport Beach Country Club in California October 30 – November 1 before the season ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, November 5 to 8.

Other featured players this week include Fred Couples, Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry while the defending champion is Michael Allen.

Australia’s Peter Senior is an alternate for the event and may not get a start. He sits at 43rd on the cup rankings after just three top 10’s this season and needs some serious luck and an exceptional performance somewhere in the next two full field events if he is to make it into the 30 person final championship and secure a card for next season.
