Women play final golf major of 2015

WOMEN golfers play their final major of the year this week with the Evian Championship underway in Evian Les Bains, France.

After the first round Australia’s Minjee Lee (pictured) was just two shots behind joint leaders Lexi Thompson and Mi Hang Lee.

In her first year as a pro, Minjee Lee has threatened in two of the previous four majors on the women’s schedule, finishing 13th in the LPGA Championship and then T9 at the Women’s British Open.

The Perth teenager and world No.15 fired five birdies, countered by two bogeys, on her way to a three under 68 to be tied sixth.

Karrie Webb, a former winner of the event and runner-up last year, overcame a slow start to finish on even tied for 26th.

Australia’s other representatives are Su Oh (72), Rebecca Artis (72), Sarah Kemp (77) and Sarah-Jane Smith (78).
