Couples takes on top Champions Tour field in Canada

Fred Couples 595

US golf veteran Fred Couples has been a little quiet this year after a long layoff but the 55 year old will be back in focus on the Champions Tour this week as defending champion at the Shaw Charity Classic in Canada.

Couples has made only five starts on the over 50’s tour this season but does have back to back top 10 finishes, including a T5 at The Senior Open where he shot all four rounds in the 60’s.

Taking all the limelight have been the likes of Colin Montgomerie, the current Charles Schwab Cup leader, and the man holding second place in that season long points race, Bernhard Langer.

Couples has been bracketed in the opening round at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary with Montgomerie and the always watchable Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Also returning after sitting out the last event is Australia’s Peter Senior, who has had only one top ten in the US this year but was encouraged by his T12 finish at The Senior British Open.
