MARC LEISHMAN has continued his good form in the US while Sweden’s David Lingmerth claimed his first PGA Tour title with a playoff victory over Justin Rose at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio.
Leishman continues to hover around the edges in the lead up to the 2015 US Open and his final round 3-under 69 at Jack Nicklaus’s event at Muirfield Village was just four strokes shy of the playoff score.
It was Leishman’s best finish anywhere since August and follows his T9 at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play in March and T24 at The Players Championship last month.
Lingmerth won the tournament with a birdie at the third playoff hole.
“I’ve been in a few playoffs. You win some, you lose some,” Lingmerth said. “But I didn’t feel that it was my turn to lose this time.”
Lingmerth, 27, started the week at No. 212 in the Official World Golf Ranking and No. 100 in the FedExCup. He’s now 28th in the FedExCup.
He was born in Sweden before moving to the US to play college golf. “It’s an honor being here, and winning is surreal,” Lingmerth said.
Jordan Spieth (65) and Italy’s Francesco Molinari (71) shared third place on 15-under with Leishman tied fifth along with Hideki Matsuyama (70) and Jim Furyk (71).
After his third round blowout 85 Tiger Woods shot a 74 to finish last among those making the cut.
The US PGA Tour plays the St Jude Classic at the TPC Southwind in Memphis this week before the US Open at Chambers Ba Golf Club in Washington.
