Day and Leishman leading contenders in US but can Woods also bounce back at a favourite course

2015 Farmers Insurance Open Preview: Leaderboard

JASON DAY and Marc Leishman have great records at Torrey Pines Golf Course and so undoubtedly does Tiger Woods.

A big difference between the three fronting up for the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego this week is that the Aussies, and Day in particular, have been showing some pretty decent form recently, while Woods is coming off his worst ever professional score and a short game display that at times would have made a weekend hacker blush.

The two Aussies were joint runners up last year and Leishman was also T2 in 2010 and was 9th in 2011. Day also won a World Junior Championship here.

Woods has won here eight times, including the 2008 US Open, but didn’t look anything like that sort of golfer when he fired an 82 in the second round at the Phoenix Open last week to miss the cut by a long way.

Admittedly, Woods was back after a another long injury layoff and more swing changes and was understandably very rusty, but didn’t look that much better during a practice round this week.

The defending champion this week is Scott Stallings while other contenders include Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker and Hideki Matsuyama.

The Aussie line-up also includes Aaron Baddeley, our best finisher in Phoenix last week, John Senden, Cameron Smith, Stuart Appleby, Robert Allenby, Cameron Percy and Jarrod Lyle.
