PETER FOWLER had a good result on the European Senior Tour on the weekend finishing tied for fourth at the 2014 Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open in Switzerland.
Fowler shot 66,68,69 to close on 7-under, eight shots behind runaway outright winner Rick Gibson of Canada.
Australia’s Mike Harwood also finished in the top 10 with a final round 3-under 67 seeing him tied for ninth on 6-under.
Gibson was delighted with his wire to wire maiden victory on the European Senior Tour, shooting 63, 66, 66 to finish at 15-under, six strokes ahead of nearest rival Denis O’Sullivan of Ireland.
“It hasn’t all sunk in yet,” the 52 year old said. “It’s kind of surreal, I just tried not to think about winning until I hit the green on the 18th, and then I started to relax and take it in. I didn’t want to do anything silly.
“This is actually the first week that I can think of when I didn’t get angry at all. I didn’t play my best golf all the time, but stayed totally calm and in control of my emotions, which was key.”
Gibson, who has been on the senior tour for three years, played and lived for much of his career in Asia.
His win also means automatic qualification for the Senior British Open Championship which gets underway on July 24 at Royal Porthcawl in Wales.
