2014 Memorial Tournament Preview: Leaderboard
By Brian O’Hare
THE FUN continues for Aussie golf fans this week with world No.1 Adam Scott backing up on the US PGA Tour – and he’ll be joined by a hopefully injury free Jason Day.
Scott won his first tournament as the world’s top ranked golfer on the weekend and again will be a strong favourite at the flagship the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, this week.
Day hasn’t played since his 20th place finish at the US Masters seven weeks ago, sidelined with a nagging injury to his thumb.
The 26 year old is a local resident and often practices at the iconic Muirfield Village layout, home to the 2013 Presidents Cup. Day, still ranked as world No.7 despite his long layoff, had a great start to the year with a runner-up finish at Torrey Pines in February and a victory at the WGC Matchplay in March. That followed his victory at the World Cup at Royal Melbourne last November.
Other Aussies taking part this week, a number with their own good form on the board recently, include Matt Jones, Marc Leishman, Aaron Baddeley, Greg Chalmers, Stuart Appleby, Robert Allenby and Steven Bowditch.
There are of course some golfers from other countries also lining up at Muirfiled, including BMW PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy, who will partner Scott and Day in a dream threesome for the first two rounds, Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner.
