SERGIO GARCIA is a hot favourite this week with the European Tour in Spain for the Open de Espana (Spanish Open) at the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona.
Garcia, who won this event in 2002 in one of only two appearances, has been in some good form of late and is up against a much easier field than he has been facing in the US.
“I’m excited to be back in Spain and playing the Spanish Open, so hopefully we can have another good week here,” said Garcia, who was third at the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass on Sunday.
Recent Champions Tour debut winner Miguel Angel Jimenez is another local with a strong chance while Raphael Jacquelin, Francesco Molinari and Thomas Aiken are amongst the recent winners.
The event has a distinguished history dating back to 1912 and has been part of the European Tour since 1972. Richard Green and Wade Ormsby are the only Aussies teeing it up.
