AUSSIE GOLFER Scott Hend finds himself playing on the US PGA Tour this week at the jointly sanctioned CIMB Classic at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Malaysia.
Hend won on the Asian Tour for the third time last week with a three shot victory in Macau but both the purse and the quality of the field will go up a few notches this week as the two tours combine.
Playing for the US$7 million purse in Malaysia is a strong field that includes Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Bradley Keegan, Nick Watney, Bubba Watson, Ernie Els and Japan’s latest golfing star, Hideki Matsuyama. Matsuyama is one of seven President’s Cup players taking part.
Hend is playing not only for the cash but a win would give him US PGA Tour status and all sorts of other opportunities.
The other Aussies in the field are Matt Jones, Marc Leishman, Aaron Baddeley and Wade Ormsby.
The CIMB field consists of the top 60 available players from the 2013 FedExCup standings, top 10 from the Asian Tour order of merit, and eight sponsor exemptions.
