MEXICO’S Esteban Toledo has won his second US Champions Tour title with a playoff victory over Kenny Perry at the 2013 Montreal Championship.
The 50 year old tour rookie became the first golfer from his country to win on the tour after another playoff at the Insperity Championship in May in Texas.
Toledo shot a final round 3-under 69 to match Perry at 5-under on La Vallee du Richelieu’s Rouville Course in Sainte-Julie, Quebec.
Perry, the Senior Players Championship and US Senior Open winner in consecutive tour starts this season, had a 70.
Toledo, a former boxer, swung his fist after he chipped in for the birdie to clinch the title on the third playoff hole.
“I always celebrate with a left hook,” an excited Toledo said.
“I really like Esteban,” Perry said. “He’s a talented kid. He works hard and I was very proud of him. That was a great shot. I said, ‘One of us needs to make a birdie.’ Bad for me, but good for Esteban. Great job.”
Bernhard Langer had a three stroke lead coming into the final round but shot a 75 to tie for fourth at 3-under with David Frost, Michael Allen and Anders Forsbrand.
Australia’s Peter Senior closed with a 2-over 74 to finish 1-over tied for 20th.
The Champions Tour now has a two week break before venturing to Hawaii for the Pacific Links championship September 20 – 22.
