ADAM SCOTT returns to the scene of his first US PGA Tour win this weekend but it is a much different golfer lining up at the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship.

The 33 year old won the event 10 years ago but returns as the reigning US Masters Champion with nine other PGA Tour wins under his belt.

“Well, this is one of my favorite events on the Tour and definitely has a special place in my heart, being where I won my first TOUR event back in 2003,” said Scott at the TPC Boston this week.

Scott won the first of the four TOUR playoffs last week and is now second in the FedEx Cup rankings behind Tiger Woods.

He will play in a dream threesome for at least the first two rounds in Boston that includes Woods – who says he is over his back spasm problems of last weekend – and number three on the list Phil Mickelson.

Despite his big successes this year, Scott is well aware he is still the “third wheel” in the threesome with the local crowds.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m not too worried about tomorrow morning’s round [Saturday morning AEST – the championship starts a day later than usual and concludes in the US on Monday],” Scott said.

“I’m more interested in Saturday afternoon, how that’s going to shape up. I’m sure it’s going to be quite vocal out there on Saturday afternoon. But it will be a fun experience. And I enjoyed it last time. It’s one of the great memories I have of my whole golfing career, I think, was playing in that one, two and three pairing at the 2008 U.S. Open. The build up to that event was huge. And just to be even the third wheel in that group was really something I’ll remember forever.”

Just the top 100 golfers on the FedEx points list go into this event with a further 30 to be shed in two weeks at BMW Championship. Thirty survive to the Tour Championship the following week and vie for the US$10 million cup bonus.

Scott leads a group of six Aussies this week that includes Jason Day, Matthew Jones, Marc Leishman, Greg Chalmers and Stuart Appleby.

Leishman is currently 76th in the standings and he and the two golfers following him have work to do to progress further into the playoffs.
