THERE will be a new “swoosh” to Jason Day’s golf game with reports the world number one has signed a huge deal to wear Nike apparel, shoes and gloves.
The deal hasn’t been officially announced but insiders say it is worth over US$10 million a year going forward.
Nike announced recently it is getting out of the golf equipment business but obviously intends sticking around flogging apparel like shirts, pants, hats, gloves and shoes.
Day will join golfing luminaries Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as Nike wearers.
The 28 year old Aussie has long been a TaylorMade-Adidas man but it is already accepted knowledge that Adidas plans on selling TaylorMade.
So it is likely Day will still use TalorMade clubs and balls but have that familiar Nike “swoosh” on his hat.
Day has a big shot at winning the FedEx Cup US$10 million jackpot at the US PGA TOUR’S season ending event next week so it could be a very big month for the Queenslander’s bank balance.
