THE 2015 US Senior PGA Championship is the second senior major of the year and is underway at the tough Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Indiana.
Blustery and damp conditions in the first round saw Japan’s Massy Kuramoto the only player in the 50 and over event to beat par.
Kuramoto shot a 1-under 71 to lead by a stroke over five players on par, including defending champion Colin Montgomerie.
The 59-year-old Kuramoto is a 30-time winner on the Japan Tour and also won the 2014 Japan Senior Open.
Australia’s representatives Peter Senior and Peter Fowler joined the many golfers struggling with the conditions and monster layout. Senior was on 3-over with Fowler 5-over.
Senior hasn’t been at the top of his game of late but has performed well in this event in his five previous appearances.
The 55 year old had back-to-back top-five finishes in 2011 and 2012, and had his worst result last year, a none too shabby T15 finish.
European Senior Tour regular Fowler is also playing this event for the sixth consecutive time but hasn’t fared as well, with his best finish a T64.
