PETER FOWLER fired a final round 7-under 65 to finish tied for 10th in the latest European Senior Tour event in Portugal.
The Aussie veteran golfer let fly with seven unanswered birdies at the Vidago Palace course in Porto to finish five strokes behind winner Tim Thelen (72) of the USA.
Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin (67) was runner up on 11-under followed by England’s Carl Mason (71) and Ireland’s Des Smyth (71) tied third a stroke further back.
Kiwi Greg Turner (72) was T5 on 9-under with four others.
It was the 53 year old Thelen’s fourth European Senior Tour victory and follows some very encouraging recent results.
“It feels so good to be back in the winners’ circle again,” he said. “I won three times in 2012 but I didn’t play well last year at all and was lucky to keep my card. However, this year, I’ve played well pretty much all the time. I just didn’t get it done until now. This week, I did.”Portugal Open Results
