ADAM SCOTT will not return to action until the Honda Classic at the end of February; although, he says he is continuing to work on his game while in the Bahamas.
Last year’s US Masters winner is enjoying a well-earned break from the game before taking part in the Honda Classic, which is scheduled to start on 27th February at Palm Beach Gardens.
Earlier this month, the 33-year-old Australian played in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open, where he finished tied for eighth on ten-under, seven strokes behind winner, Jimmy Walker, before embarking on a six-week break from competition.
“There’s heaps of work to do, but there’s got to be a break somewhere,” said Scott. “I could keep playing. I feel like I’m playing well. But you can’t continue to perform at the level you want if you play all the time. I’m forcing myself to take a break.”
The world number two finished fourth in the FedEx standings last season and also clinched third spot at the Open Championship but his year was dominated by his success in Augusta nine months ago, a result that surprised many golf betting fans on the bet365 website.
On winning The Masters, Scott said: “The moment of sheer joy is very short. It didn’t carry on for days and days. It’s numbed by formalities and all those other things. It was only a few hours and then the Hilton Head tournament started. It’s incredible that a lifelong dream can be achieved and it’s so short.”
Meanwhile, of his time in the Bahamas, he added: “I’ll work on my game a lot.”
Rory McIlroy, a perennial favourite in the betting odds, also intends to take part in the Honda Classic, the tournament where he sensationally walked off the course after completing just 26 holes last year.
