TOM PERNICE JR. won in his US Champions Tour debut in 2009 but it has taken another 50 tournaments for his second title.
The American birdied the final two holes at the 3M Championship at the TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota for a one-stroke victory over Jeff Sluman and Corey Pavin.
Pernice finished with a 4-under 68 and had a 17-under 199 total to add to a career total that also includes two US PGA Tour victories.
Trailing Sluman by one shot at the par-3 17th, Pernice made a 40-foot birdie putt to pull even. At the par-5 18th, he hit his second shot from 200 yards to 8 feet and two-putted for the winning birdie.
“I just tried to tell myself to stay patient, stay relaxed and give yourself plenty of opportunities, and I did,” the 54 year old said.
Peter Senior closed with a 6-under 66 to finish tied for 11th on 12-under while Steve Elkington blew out with a 76 in the final round after a promising start.
Fowler T26 in Germany
Peter Fowler [Read Larry Canning’s recent interview with Fowler] continued his good form on the European Senior Tour, closing with a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 26th at the Berenberg Masters in Refrath, Germany.
