Rumford 2nd in Scotland

Rumford finished at 12-under

BRETT RUMFORD has ended any worries he might have harboured about retaining his European Tour playing card with a runner up finish at the 2012 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

The Australian started the week 109th on The Race to Dubai but a cheque for €197,408 will well and truly secure his card for next season.

Rumford began the final round four behind overnight leader Paul Lawrie and matched his closing 68 to finish alone in second spot.

Lawrie gave Europe’s Ryder Cup Team a boost by winning on home soil for the third time in his career.

“I feel calmer in Scotland for some reason – it’s weird – and I play some of my best golf too,” the Scotsman said.
