Nathan Condon breakthrough win

Condon fired a 5-under-par 67 at Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club to finish two strokes clear of runner-up Nathan Green, who won the 2009 RBC Canadian Open during his time on the PGA TOUR.
After earning his PGA Legends Tour status through the Qualifying School at Murwillumbah at the start of the year, Condon finished tied for second at Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria in just his second event.
He had gathered another eight top-10s before this breakthrough win and has now moved inside the top 20 on the Order of Merit.
“It’s a great feeling. It’s something I’ve been working hard to get,” Condon said.
“Had good vibes coming in here after last year and put it all together today – it was great.”
Mark Gilson, Peter Lonard and Darran Train shared third place at 1-under, while four players finished a further stroke back at even-par to share sixth.
Turning point
Starting the day from the 16th tee, Condon went on an early charge, making four consecutive birdies from the 18th through to the third before adding two pars and another birdie at the sixth to reach 5-under through his opening nine.
Quick quotes
Condon said: “Today was one of the first days I didn’t look at the leaderboard until right at the end.
“I knew he (Nathan Green) was there and I just wanted to make a birdie and a par to finish and that’s what happened.
“My ball striking yesterday was as good as today, but I just couldn’t get it ball anywhere near the hole yesterday (in practice).”

Brad Burns age-defying Brisbane win

On a day in which Nigel Lane delivered a highlight with an ace at the 113-metre par-3 10th, Burns fell one shot shy of shooting his age in a professionally-sanctioned tournament.
The 60-year-old had six birdies in his bogey-free round of 6-under 61, making three straight pars to close out his round and finish just shy of shooting his age.
“Played great actually,” said Burns, the reigning PGA Legends Tour Order of Merit winner.
”Had a chance to shoot my age coming home, the last three holes, but unfortunately didn’t hole any putts there.
“But it was a good day.”
A late bogey saw Jason Norris finish in outright second at 4-under par, one clear of Royal Queensland champion Adam Henwood, Wayne Perske and Simon Tooman.
Quick quotes
“Just a solid game of golf for a change with no bogeys,” was Burns’s post-round summary.
“The course is in great condition out there and credit to the greenkeepers and thanks to Wolston Park for putting on the event.”

Adam Henwood crowned at Royal Queensland

Troubled by injury in recent months, Henwood was 1-over through eight holes at RQ before a two at the signature par-4 12th got him back under par.
He followed that with three straight birdies from the 15th hole to post 4-under 68 and finish one clear of Scott Barr (69) with Brad Burns third (70).
“Played pretty good,” was Henwood’s brief summation of his round and his third win of the PGA Legends Tour season.
“Had a tough front nine – got pretty unlucky a couple of times and had quite a lot of almost short putts go in.
“Then sort of caught fire on the back nine and got it done.”
Barr was bogey-free and 3-under on his round with five holes to play but couldn’t conjure the birdie he needed over his closing holes to match Henwood.
