Victor Harbor another highlight for new super senior golfer Nick Wake

New Super Senior golfer Nick Wake again scooped the pool with the top score at the South Australian Senior Order of Merit event at Victor Harbor. JOHN ANDERSON reports.

Record rain in Adelaide over the previous week  and a forecast for more did not bode well for the Victor Harbor round of the SA Senior Order of Merit on Monday 10^th of August.

However, a field of 53, including locals and those who made the hour trip south to the Fleurieu Peninsula, assembled and found the course was in excellent shape considering the amount of rain, fairways held up well with expected soft greens that ran well.

A few light showers and once down from the famous elevated 1st tee the wind wasn’t too strong. Add a BBQ and a good day was had by all !

The highlight was Super Senior Nick Wake again returning the day’s best score with an even Par 72 beating all the Senior Men’s OOM of contenders.

Senior/Super Senior Women

Se Young Jung (North Adelaide)(88) added another SOOM win to her season, winning by one stroke from Christine Trimmer (The Vines of Reynella) with Blackwood’s Gale McPherson and Glenelg’s Tonia Ross another stroke back.

Magaret Schultz (Blackwood)(75) won the Women’s Nett with Nadine McLinden (West Lakes) second with 77 with Se Young Jung and Blackwood’s Jill Sommerlad and Jill Walter all returning 78’s.

Senior Men

Phil Chapman (Aston Hills) 76 was good enough with three 78’s from Steve Osborn (Grange), Tony Nobbs (the Vines) and David Pateyjohns (Willunga).

Osborn (72) won the Nett from Chapman (74) with Ernie Jarvis (Hervey Bay) third with 75.

Super Senior Men

Nick Wake (72/72) won both the Gross and the Nett  – well clear in the Gross from Steven Scholfield (McCracken) (80) and local Dean Towill (82).
