A standout performance from new Super Senior Nick Wake as West Lakes welcomes South Australian senior golfers

Good Conditions Conducive to Good Scoring at West Lakes SOOM. JOHN ANDERSON reports.

The South Australian Senior Order of Merit resumed on Monday the 3^rd of August at West Lakes Golf Club.

West Lakes is located next to The Grange so is also sand based and therefore unaffected by Adelaide’s winter conditions. Additionally the 63 players were given perfect seasonable weather conditions – quite a bit of sunshine and only a mild breeze of around one club.

Of major interest was Glenelg’s Nick Wake debuting as a Super Senior after a recent birthday and returning the day’s best score!

We also had a couple of visitors in Michael King from Roxby Downs and Ernie Jarvis from Hervey Bay.

Senior Men

Conditions were set for good scoring and that certainly happened in this category with four players returning Gross scores of 4-over 74’s. David Schirripa from Grange won his first SOOM victory on a countback from Club mate Steve Osborne and SOOM leaders, Paul Gregory (The Vines of Reynella) and Phil Chapman (Aston Hills).

Osborne’s Nett 68 was good enough to win this category from Schirripa and local Gavin Buttle with Nett 70’s.

Super Senior Men

Gross 72 from scratch marker Nick Wake well clear of Peter Shaw Grange) (79) and four players returning 80’s – Mike Richards (Tea Tree Gully), Nigel Turner (Links Lady Bay, Ken Gilbert (West Lakes) and former member Colin Andy (Future Golf).
West Lakes Gavin Belcher (71) won the Nett from Wake, Andy and Gilbert (72’s).

Senior/Super Senior Women

SA’s leading Senior woman, Christine Trimmer (the Vines) won the Gross with 79, well clear of Tonia Ross (Glenelg)(87) and Se Young Jung (North Adelaide)(88) continuing her good form since her SOOM debut earlier this season.

Christine’s Nett 73 shared with Sharyn Simes (Grange) with Nadine McLindin (West Lakes) third with Nett 74.
