FRESH from his jaunt to the US Senior Players Championship Peter Fowler is back in Europe this week for the 2014 Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open in the Swiss Alps.

Fowler was threatening the lead after two great opening rounds at the Fox Chapel Golf Club and fell away somewhat on the weekend but still managed to finish T33 in what was the senior tour’s third major of the year.

The 55 year old Aussie is back on probably more familiar turf at the Golf Club Bad Ragaz on the European Senior Tour leading a small band of fellow countrymen including Mike Harwood, Noel Ratcliffe. Fowler will be looking for his fourth European Senior Tour victory.

Making them all feel young and sprightly this week will be a rare appearance by New Zealand’s Bob Charles, the 1963 British Open Champion and a two-time Senior Open Champion.

The 78 year old Kiwi will be returning to a venue where he has enjoyed some magnificent moments over the years. Charles opened this tournament in 2012 with a four under par round of 66 – an incredible ten shots under his age at the time of the event.

Defending champion this week is 52 year old Englishman Paul Wesselingh, a four-time European Senior Tour winner.

The Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open holds the record as the longest standing host venue on the Senior Tour, with this week’s tournament marking the 18th consecutive edition at Golf Club Bad Ragaz.
