Aussies last hit out before 2014 US Open

2014 St Jude Classic Preview: Leaderboard

John Senden 595 AO

A NUMBER of golfers will have their last hit out on the US PGA Tour this week at the St Jude Classic in Memphis ahead of the US Open.

Aussies John Senden, Robert Allenby and 2006 US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy are among those using the TPC Southwind to fine tune their games ahead of the big one at Pinehurst next week.
Others include Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and Lee Westwood.

Senden is a winner on the US Tour this year while Allenby will be buoyed by his successful effort on Monday to gain a start at Pinehurst at the Ohio qualifying event. Allenby has always performed well at this event with six top 20’s in his seven starts. The 42 year old has had a roller coaster year in 2014 as the four-time Tour winner makes use of a once only career money list exemption to try to secure his card for 2015.

Ogilvy hasn’t strung four good rounds together for a while and if the former open champion is to get back to form now would be a good time.

Other Aussies taking part this week are Stuart Appleby, Steven Bowditch, Scott Gardiner and rookie Bronson La’Cassie.

Pampling and Price prepare in Cleveland

Meanwhile, other US Open Sectional Qualifyers Aron Price and Rod Pampling will tee up at this week’s Cleveland Open on the Web.com Tour to fine tune their games for Pinehurst.
Pampling’s second round 65 was the best of the day at US Open Sectional Qualifying in Ohio on Monday and hopefully he can maintain the form.
