FIVE AUSSIES will take on Europe’s leading senior golfers when the 2014 Senior Tour has its first event of the year on European soil this weekend.

Peter Fowler, Mike Harwood, Graham Banister, Noel Ratcliffe and Terry Price will tee it up when the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship returns to The Stoke By Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa for the third time.

Defending champion Paul Wesselingh and a clutch of ex-Ryder Cup stars will take centre stage at the resort which previously staged the tournament in 2006 and 2007 when it was won by Sam Torrance and Carl Mason respectively.

Wesselingh will have an historic hat-trick in his sights this week with the 52 year old Englishman attempting to make it three victories in consecutive years at three different venues.

The 72 hole PGA Seniors Championship is the oldest event on the European Senior Tour schedule and dates back to 1957.

Peter Fowler won his third European Senior Tour title at the French Riviera Masters last year but missed the cut when he trekked over to the US recently for the Champion Tour’s second major of the year, the US Senior PGA Championship. Maybe the fact that he will be celebrating his 55th birthday on Monday will give him a boost.
