JUST two Aussie golfers line up for the first World Golf Championship of 2014 this week, the Accenture Match Play championship at Dove Mountain in the Arizona desert.

Jason Day and Marc Leishman will be hoping for a better start to the tournament  than last year, when a big dump of snow suspended the first round, though Day did go on to finish third.

The field includes 64 of the leading available players from the world rankings.

Noticeably absent are three of the world top four – Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson. That leaves Henrik Stenson as the highest ranked player present.

Both Aussies have shown some form this year, with Day a runner-up at Torrey Pines three weeks ago and with the opportunity to move into the world top ten with a decent performance this week.

Leishman hasn’t done that well lately but is almost at a career high world No.63 and could move into the all-important top 50.

Day plays  Denmark’s Thorbjorn Oleson in the first round while Leishman is up against the enigmatic Sergio Garcia.
