FOLLOWING Sergio Garcia’s win at the rain delayed 2012 Wyndham Championship the regular US PGA Tour season is now over and attention turns to the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Nine Aussies have qualified among the 125 golfers who will tee off in the first of the four playoff events – The Barclays, which will take place at the renowned Bethpage Black Course in New York.
Marc Leishman was the highest ranked Australian in the FedEx Cup standings thanks mostly to his win at the Travelers Championship in June.
He will be joined by Adam Scott, John Senden, Aaron Baddeley, Geoff Ogilvy, Greg Chalmers, Robert Allenby, Jason Day and Rod Pampling, whose 8-under T28 finish at the Wyndham Championship on Tuesday saw him move up to 116th in the FedEx standings.
The PGA TOUR Playoffs are a knockout style championship with the fields gradually reduced over the events – The Barclays, Deutsche Bank Championship, BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship – till the lone winner pockets a cool US$10 million.
